A Day of Fun and Learning at St Michaels’ Junior School
St Michaels’ Junior School Dr Anne Samson, a historian and expert on WW1 and Africa in partnership with Diversity House, presented a day of fun and learning at St Michael’s Primary School to Year 6 pupils on 20th September 2017. The project forms part of the 'Breaking the Myths: WW1 & Africa,’ programme which has been highlighting the involvement of Africans in the Great War. The ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ is set in the future when women’s sole purpose is to reproduce. The book explores feminist ideals – both the idea of equality with men and the extremes of radical feminism. SWAG Team Receives high level of interest at Sittingbourne Job Centre Fair
The SWAG team were inundated with enquiries from women seeking jobs and information on how to improve their prospects at the Job Fair organised by Sittingbourne Job Centre in September. The women were enquiring about the type of support they could receive to help them enter the job market after sometimes long periods of unemployment. The shop closed after 6pm and only members invited by the SWAG Team could enjoy the exclusive service of personal shoppers and discounts on purchases made at the shop that evening. African Drumming and Face Painting Uplifted Spirits at Art in The Park
Even though the wind howled and the weather was changeable, nothing could dampen the Diversity House spirit when they came out in full on Saturday 19th August at the Art in the Park event at Milton Creek in Sittingbourne. At their stall the team put on a range of workshops and activities including face painting, mask-making and the popular drumming and dancing workshops provided by Bantu Arts who also performed on the big stage and created quite a stir!
